Tom Chambers Boutique Range Lavenham Hanging Table

It’s just what I wanted to replace a similar one that squirrels chewed. However I don’t understand the need for 4 holes to be drilled in the bottom. I suppose designers think they will let rainwater drain away but it has an overhanging roof! My older hanging feeder was the same design and I don’t ever recall seeing water gathered inside the base. I am monitoring how much bird feed drops through them onto the lawn. I don’t want a mess under the feeder so I might have to buy some grommets/plugs for the holes. Also, this feeder isn’t as heavy as other slate-roofed hanging feeders available online - I had to send one back because it was unbelievably heavy for hanging on branches. This feeder is not flimsy and looks well made.
