An award-winning hybrid variety engineered to deliver heavy crops of sweet, smooth-skinned cucumbers with excellent disease resistance.

Introduce reliable heritage quality to your kitchen garden with this high-performance F1 hybrid, produced by Mr Fothergill’s Seeds in proud partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society. Honoured with the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit for its performance, Emilie F1 is an extremely productive variety designed to thrive in greenhouse or sheltered outdoor conditions. It is the definitive choice for home growers looking to maximize their summer harvest of crisp, succulent cucumbers.

Details:

  • Botanical Name: Cucumis sativus 'Emilie F1', a premium, highly uniform hybrid cultivar within the gourd family.
  • Plant Class: Half-Hardy Annual, possessing superior hybrid vigour that ensures rapid germination, robust root systems, and early fruit development.
  • All-Female Flowers: Produces almost entirely female flowers, a key feature that eliminates the need for manual pollination and ensures a bumper crop of high-quality fruit.
  • Succulent Mid-Sized Fruit: Bears a prolific abundance of straight, mid-sized cucumbers with an exceptionally smooth skin, a crisp texture, and a sweet, refreshing flavour.
  • Advanced Disease Resistance: Bred with robust modern genetics to feature excellent natural tolerance against common garden pathogens, keeping the vines healthy and productive over a long season.
  • High-Yielding Habit: Developed as an extremely productive crop, making it a great choice if you are looking to secure a continuous supply of fresh ingredients for summer salads.

Care Instructions:

  • Sowing Position: For greenhouse cultivation, sow seeds individually on their sides in small pots from March to May, maintaining a consistent temperature. For outdoor crops, sow from April to May indoors, or direct outdoors into rich, well-drained soil in full sun from late May once all danger of frost has passed.
  • Planting Out and Spacing: Transplant young indoor-raised seedlings to their final positions in the greenhouse border, large containers, or sheltered outdoor beds, allowing a generous 60cm between individual plants to accommodate the climbing growth habit.
  • Moisture and Feeding: Keep the soil or compost consistently moist by watering deeply around the base of the plant, as regular moisture is vital to prevent the fruit from turning bitter. Apply a high-potash organic liquid fertilizer every two weeks once the first tiny cucumbers begin to form.
  • Support and Training: Provide sturdy support using netting, bamboo canes, or strings, training the main stem to climb vertically. Harvest the cucumbers regularly when they reach maturity, as frequent picking stimulates the vigorous plant to produce a non-stop flush of fresh fruit.
