A pioneering F1 hybrid delivering uniform, pure white globe roots with exceptional bolt and woodiness resistance.

Bring advanced modern breeding to your salad patch with the very first white radish hybrid of its kind. Highly celebrated in trials for its outstanding reliability, Whitella F1 produces perfectly round, smooth roots in a clean, brilliant white shade. Engineered by nature to grow rapidly without turning woody or hollow, it stands as the definitive choice for consistent, premium-quality seasonal harvests.

Details:

  • Botanical Name: Raphanus sativus 'Whitella F1', an elite, market-first white hybrid selection within the Radish family.
  • Plant Class: Hardy Annual, possessing superior hybrid vigour for lightning-fast germination and highly uniform root development.
  • Pure Alabaster White Globes: Bears a prolific abundance of beautifully structured, round roots cloaked in a striking, bright white skin. The unique colouration offers a sophisticated, gourmet aesthetic that breaks away from traditional red radishes.
  • Slow to Turn Woody: Bred with advanced modern genetics to ensure the interior white flesh remains solid, crisp, and exceptionally juicy for a long period. Unlike older open-pollinated varieties, it is highly resistant to turning pithy, tough, or overly hollow past maturity.
  • Refined Peppery Flavour: Packed with a clean, crisp, and delightfully refreshing mild peppery bite, making it an excellent, crowd-pleasing addition to any fresh seasonal dish.
  • Outstanding Disease Resistance: Showcases superb built-in genetic protection, featuring high natural resistance in both the leaves and roots against Downy Mildew and Fusarium Wilt, keeping the plants healthy and productive.
  • High-Yielding Space Saver: Highly valued for its neat, compact habit and strong leaf attachment. Because it occupies minimal space, it serves as an excellent "intercrop" choice, sown in the temporary empty spaces between slower-growing crops like brassicas or sweetcorn.
  • Nutritional Value: A highly rewarding, health-boosting crop for home growers, serving as an excellent natural source of immune-supporting Vitamin C.

Care Instructions:

  • Sowing Position: For a non-stop, continuous supply of crisp white radishes from spring through to autumn, sow small successional batches every 2 weeks from February through to September. Sow seeds thinly directly into finely raked, weed-free, and well-drained soil 1cm (0.5in) deep, in rows spaced 15cm (6in) apart. Position in full sun. (Early February sowings can be started under cloches or in a cold greenhouse).
  • Thinning Out: Once the young seedlings emerge, thin them out gradually to space individual plants roughly 2.5–5cm (1–2in) apart. Proper thinning ensures the roots have ample room to swell evenly into perfect spheres without crowding one another.
  • Moisture & Speed Control: The key to cultivating premium, crunchy radishes is rapid, unchecked growth. Keep the soil or container compost consistently moist but never waterlogged. Regular, even watering keeps the flesh sweet and crisp; allowing the soil to dry out completely stresses the hybrid root system, causing the radishes to develop a harsh, unpleasantly hot flavour.
  • Harvesting Tip: Pull the roots promptly when they are small to medium-sized (roughly the size of a marble to a walnut) for the absolute peak crispness and flavor. Pull them fresh as needed between March and October, trim the leafy tops, and wash thoroughly before serving.
