Weave a delicate, shifting tapestry of luminous, tissue-paper blooms across your summer garden.
A quintessentially charming and effortless hardy annual belonging to the historic Papaver rhoeas family. Reaching a graceful height of 60cm, this traditional favorite produces an abundance of single, translucent-petalled flowers in a soft, elegant colour palette, making it the perfect choice for scattering in cottage borders and creating bee-friendly wildflower drifts.
Details:
- Botanical Name: Papaver rhoeas, a refined, soft-toned selection of the classic annual field poppy.
- Tissue-Paper Pastel Mix: Features a light, airy blend of single blooms in exquisite shades of soft rose pink, salmon, warm scarlet, and pure white, often decorated with delicate pale margins.
- Graceful Upright Habit: Grows to a balanced height of 60cm (2ft) on slender, hairy stems, adding a soft, flowing movement to the garden as the blooms dance in the summer breeze.
- Effortless Wildlife Magnet: The open, accessible single cups are packed with high-quality pollen, making this mixture a superb asset for attracting bumblebees, honeybees, and colorful butterflies.
- Foolproof Border Filler: Exceptional for broadcast sowing directly into empty border gaps, newly established allotments, or large, naturalised meadow displays with minimal maintenance.
- Sun-Loving Heritage Variety: Performs at its absolute best when positioned in full sun and well-drained soil, blooming profusely throughout the high summer months.
Care Instructions:
- Sow seeds directly outdoors where they are to flower from spring to early summer. Prepare the soil by raking it to a fine tilth, scatter the seeds thinly on the surface, and press down gently (do not cover, as poppy seeds need light to germinate).
- Keep the seedbed consistently moist until germination is complete. Thin out the young seedlings to roughly 15–20cm apart to give the branching stems plenty of room and light to develop.
- Allow some late-season flower heads to dry naturally on the plant; they will rattle open and self-seed into the soil, providing a beautiful, free return of poppies the following summer.
