Grow a time-tested British classic celebrated for its heavy yields of plump, sweet marrowfat peas.

An iconic, long-standing favorite belonging to the traditional Pisum family, perfectly adapted to thrive in the UK climate. Reaching a sturdy and easily managed height of 60cm, this reliable dwarf variety produces an abundance of large, blunt-ended pods filled with rich, sweet peas that are equally at home on the dinner table or the competitive exhibition bench.

Details:

  • Botanical Name: Pisum sativum, a superior and highly reliable wrinkled-seeded dwarf marrowfat pea.
  • Classic Marrowfat Profile: An old-fashioned variety that produces large, plump, and deeply flavorful peas with a wonderfully sweet, meltingly tender texture.
  • Blunt Dark Green Pods: Produces masses of distinctive, wide, and blunt-ended pods that are tightly packed with up to 8 or 9 large, uniform peas.
  • Perfect for the UK Climate: Specially esteemed for its robust performance in British soils, showing excellent resilience against unpredictable summer weather.
  • Compact 60cm Dwarf Habit: Grows to a neat, manageable height of 60cm (24in), making it an excellent space-saving choice for allotments, vegetable beds, and raised kitchen gardens.
  • Exhibition & Disease Resistant: Features built-in natural resistance to common garden diseases, keeping the vines exceptionally healthy to produce uniform, show-bench-quality pods.

Care Instructions:

  • Sow seeds directly outdoors from mid-spring to early summer in flat-bottomed drills 5cm deep, spacing the seeds roughly 5cm apart in fertile, well-worked soil.
  • Provide a short support structure, such as pea netting, low interlocking bamboo frames, or branching twigs, to keep the 60cm vines upright and the heavy crop off the damp ground.
  • Water the rows deeply and consistently once the first flowers appear and throughout pod development to ensure the peas remain juicy, plump, and full of natural sweetness.
