Grow a highly popular, adaptable variety prized for its smooth white skin and sweet, versatile roots.

A reliable and robust gardener's favourite belonging to the traditional Pastinaca family. Producing neat, wedge-shaped roots with excellent natural resistance to canker, this dependable parsnip is exceptionally easy to grow and performs beautifully across a wide range of soil types.

Details:

  • Botanical Name: Pastinaca sativa, a highly regarded and dependable maincrop parsnip variety.
  • Smooth White Skin: Features short, broad, wedge-shaped roots with clean white skin and crisp, solid flesh that requires minimal peeling.
  • Natural Canker Resistance: Bred with built-in resistance to parsnip canker, ensuring your crops remain healthy, reliable, and unblemished in the soil.
  • Sweet & Nutty Flavour: Packed with a rich, sweet flavor that develops a delicious depth after being exposed to cold weather, making it perfect for roasting, frying, or stewing.
  • Exceptional Winter Hardiness: Fully winter-hardy; stands comfortably in freezing ground throughout the winter months, allowing you to lift them fresh as needed or freeze them for later use.
  • Adaptable to Shallow Soils: The shorter, wedge-shaped root profile makes this variety much more successful in heavier or shallower garden soils than longer, more tapered varieties.

Care Instructions:

  • Sow seeds directly outdoors from late winter through to late spring in shallow drills 1.5cm deep into finely raked, deeply dug soil.
  • Space rows roughly 30cm apart, keeping the seedbed consistently moist while waiting for germination, which can naturally take a few weeks.
  • Thin out the emerging seedlings to a final spacing of 10cm to 15cm apart, and leave the mature roots in the ground until after the first autumn frosts to lock in their maximum sweetness.
