Harvest a highly productive, versatile crop from a reliable and space-saving bush plant.

Mr Fothergill's Marrow Long Green Bush 2 seeds produce compact, sturdy plants that yield prolific crops of beautifully striped fruits. This exceptional half-hardy annual offers dual-purpose flexibility, allowing you to pick tender courgettes early or let the fruits mature into heavy, full-sized traditional marrows packed with superb country flavour.

Details:

  • Botanical Name: Cucurbita pepo, a reliable and traditional kitchen garden variety.
  • Plant Class: Half Hardy Annual, establishing rapidly to offer heavy, continuous harvests throughout the summer and autumn.
  • Dual-Purpose Harvesting: Yields dual-purpose versatility; harvest early as small, tender courgettes or allow the fruits to mature into large, striped marrows.
  • Growth & Habit: Reaches a manageable height of 60cm with a 90cm spread, growing in a neat, bushy and spreading structure that is more compact than trailing vine varieties.
  • Prolific Yields: Features highly productive growth, generating an abundance of green, striped fruits across the entire growing season.
  • Wildlife Benefit: The large, golden flowers are rich in nectar and highly attractive to bees and other beneficial garden pollinators.
  • Ideal Position: Thrives beautifully in a sheltered position in full sun, ensuring rapid fruit development and maximum flavour retention.

Care Instructions:

  • Sowing Location: For an early start, sow seeds on edge in individual deep pots undercover from mid-to-late spring. Alternatively, sow directly outdoors into rich, well-prepared soil once all danger of seasonal frost has passed.
  • Planting Layout: When transplanting, space mature plants roughly 90cm apart to allow the spreading foliage plenty of room to expand.
  • Watering Requirements: Water generously and regularly around the base of the plant, keeping the soil consistently moist to encourage heavy fruit production while avoiding wetting the leaves.
  • Feeding Advice: Apply a high-potash liquid tomato fertiliser fortnightly once the first tiny fruits begin to form, helping to sustain the plant through its prolific harvesting period.
