A fun, colourful, and educational variety producing a vibrant rainbow of crunchy, nutritious stems.

Introduce children to the magic of growing their own food with this exciting, high-impact variety from the Little Gardeners collection. Specially selected to inspire young minds, Grow A Rainbow Chard features the famous 'Bright Lights' seed mix. It produces striking, brightly coloured stems that look spectacular in the garden and bring fun, vibrant colours and healthy nutrients straight to the dinner plate.

Details:

  • Botanical Name: Beta vulgaris, a premium, highly ornamental and delicious variety within the Chard family.
  • Plant Class: Hardy Biennial, growing rapidly from a spring sowing to produce a heavy, non-stop harvest from mid-summer right through to late autumn.
  • Vibrant Rainbow Stems: Bears an abundance of broad, crunchy stems in a breathtaking spectrum of neon colours, including brilliant golds, hot pinks, deep crimsons, glowing oranges, and pure whites. The colourful stems are topped with tender, dark green leafy fronds.
  • Designed for Young Gardeners: Part of a playful, educational range designed to get kids excited about nature. The seeds are large and easy for little fingers to handle, making the sowing process highly engaging and memorable.
  • Pretty and Productive: Naturally develops a robust, upright, and non-trailing framework with a leafy spread of roughly 40cm. Because it is so beautiful, it can be grown happily in patio pots, window boxes, or tucked directly into ornamental flower beds.
  • Nutritional Powerhouse: An exceptionally healthy, nutrient-dense vegetable packed with essential vitamins and minerals, helping children learn the value of eating fresh, home-grown greens.

Care Instructions:

  • Sowing Position: Sow seeds outdoors from April to July into a finely raked, weed-free garden bed or large patio containers filled with multi-purpose compost. Position in a bright, sunny spot. Make shallow rows about 1.5cm deep, drop the seeds in, cover lightly with soil, and water gently with a kid-friendly watering can.
  • Thinning Out: Once the little seedlings emerge and grow a few centimeters tall, thin them out gradually to space the plants roughly 20–25cm apart. This gives each plant plenty of room to develop big, thick, brightly coloured stems. (The thinnings can be eaten raw as tender salad leaves!)
  • Moisture & Care: Chard is very easy to look after but loves plenty of water. Keep the soil or container compost consistently moist, especially during dry summer weeks, to ensure the stems remain crunchy and sweet rather than tough.
  • Fun & Continuous Harvesting: Show children how to harvest the chard using the "cut-and-come-again" method. Twist or snip off the outer stems first, leaving the center of the plant to keep growing. The plant will continuously push out fresh, colourful stems from July all the way until November.
