Inspire young growers to cultivate their very own spectacular, giant autumn masterpieces!
An incredibly exciting, large-scale project from the Little Gardeners collection, specially selected to ignite a passion for gardening in children. Easy to grow and full of wonder, these premium seeds allow kids to nurture a tiny seed into an absolutely enormous autumn pumpkin, creating unforgettable family memories along the way.
Details:
- Botanical Name: Cucurbita hybrida, an elite, heavy-yielding hybrid strain bred for vigorous growth and impressive scale.
- Plant Class: Half-Hardy Annual Fruit, providing an excellent long-term summer project that teaches children the rewards of patience and care.
- The Giant Experience: Produces spectacular, deep-orange pumpkins that swell to an impressive size, serving as a brilliant focal point in the garden and a source of immense pride for young gardeners.
- Harvest Window: Perfectly timed for autumn fun, with fruits ripening beautifully from September all the way through to November—just in time for Halloween carving and festive autumn displays!
- Culinary Rewards: Beyond their ornamental appeal, the sweet, dense orange flesh inside can be used to teach kids how to bake delicious homemade pumpkin pies or hearty autumn soups.
- Growth Footprint: A robust, trailing plant that forms a large green canopy, spreading out to around 1m (3.3ft) to ground the heavy fruits securely.
Care & Growing Instructions:
- Sowing Position: Sow the large, easy-to-handle seeds on their sides 2cm (0.8in) deep in small pots of compost on a warm indoor windowsill in spring. Move the young plants outdoors into a sunny, sheltered spot with rich, fertile soil once all risk of frost has safely passed.
- Maintenance: Pumpkins are hungry and thirsty plants! Keep them well-watered and feed them regularly. To grow a truly giant pumpkin, teach children a clever gardener's secret: pinch off all but one or two fruits per plant so all the plant's energy goes into making one massive winner!
