Introduce a timeless, intensely fragrant British classic to your borders and pathways.
An elite, compact English lavender variety celebrated for its rich, deep violet-blue flowers and intensely aromatic silver-green foliage. Officially recognized as a "Best Buy" variety by gardening press and consumer groups, it forms the perfect low, scented hedge or structural border edging.
Details:
- Botanical Name: Lavandula angustifolia, the quintessential, hardy true English Lavender.
- Plant Class: Hardy Shrub, establishing a robust, permanent evergreen framework that provides structural form and fragrance year after year.
- Growth Habit: Reaches a balanced medium height of 60cm (24in) with a neat, compact, and bushy habit, making it far more tight and tidy than traditional, sprawling lavender strains.
- Visual & Fragrant Appeal: Produces beautifully dense flower spikes in a striking deep blue hue, set against a fragrant backdrop of linear silver-green foliage.
- Sunlight Position: Requires a position in full sun, which sharpens its silver foliage, stimulates heavy bud production, and concentrates its iconic essential oils.
- Wildlife Friendly: Highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and all native pollinators, transforming your garden into a bustling, eco-friendly haven all summer.
- Crafting & Household Value: The highly concentrated fragrance makes this variety unbeatable for drying; use the harvested flower spikes to make long-lasting potpourri or traditional scented linen sachets.
Care & Growing Instructions:
- Sowing Position: Sow under cover in free-draining, gritty compost. Transplant into a full-sun position in sharply drained, poor-to-moderately fertile soil. It thrives in chalky or sandy ground and resents sitting in waterlogged winter soil.
- Maintenance: Exceptionally drought-tolerant once established. To prevent the plant from becoming woody and bare at the base, trim the foliage back lightly in late summer after flowering, taking care not to cut into old, bare wood.
