The definitive kitchen garden favorite, delivering reliable and heavy crops of fine-flavored fruits.

Cultivate the quintessential summer squash with this exceptionally dependable and classic variety. Celebrated by generations of gardeners for its effortless growth and high productivity, Courgette Zucchini yields a steady, abundant supply of smooth, uniform, dark green fruits that boast a crisp, tender flesh and a superb, clean flavor.

Details:

  • Botanical Name: Cucurbita pepo, the definitive, time-tested benchmark selection within the heavy-yielding Courgette genus.
  • Plant Class: Half Hardy Annual, establishing with impressive speed from a spring sowing to deliver high-volume, kitchen-ready harvests across the summer months.
  • Classic Dark Green Fruits: Produces beautifully uniform, straight, cylindrical fruits with a traditional smooth, dark green mottled skin and firm, succulently crisp cream-white flesh.
  • Compact Bush Habit: Naturally forms a neat, open, and non-trailing bush framework. This space-saving habit allows for quick, thorn-free picking and makes it equally suited for traditional allotments, raised vegetable beds, or large pots on a sun-drenched patio.
  • Relentless Summer Cropping: Highly prolific and resilient, this established favorite will continuously pump out fresh flowers and fruits over an extended period from mid-summer right up until the first sharp autumn frosts.
  • Gourmet Edible Blossoms: Features large, vibrant golden-orange flowers that can be harvested early in the morning to be stuffed with soft cheese, battered, and lightly fried as a Mediterranean delicacy.
  • Kitchen Versatility: An absolute dream for the cook, holding its texture beautifully whether sliced into quick stir-fries, roasted with summer herbs, grilled on the barbecue, or grated into savory baking recipes.

Care Instructions:

  • Sowing Position: Start seeds indoors from April to May by sowing individual seeds on their edges 2cm deep in pots of moist compost. Alternatively, sow directly outdoors in late May or June into rich, warm soil once all danger of frost has fully passed. Position in full sun.
  • Moisture & Nutrition: Courgettes are incredibly hungry and thirsty plants. Plant them out into a sunny spot heavily enriched with well-rotted manure or garden compost, and water them deeply and regularly at the base of the plant, especially during dry spells.
  • Harvesting Tip: Use a sharp knife to harvest the courgettes when they reach about 10–15cm (4–6in) long. Regular and frequent picking is absolutely vital, as it stimulates the plant into pushing out a non-stop supply of fresh flowers and fruits.
