A high-performance hybrid delivering heavy crops of intensely bright, straight, golden-yellow fruits.
Brighten up your vegetable plot and your dinner plate with this outstanding modern F1 hybrid courgette. Renowned for its exceptional vigor and heavy yields, Soleil F1 produces beautifully uniform, golden-skinned fruits on compact plants. Backed by built-in tolerance to powdery mildew, it ensures a reliable and prolonged summer-long harvest.
Details:
- Botanical Name: Cucurbita pepo, a highly refined, premium hybrid selection within the Courgette genus.
- Plant Class: Half Hardy Annual, establishing with superior speed and stamina to deliver early, consistent kitchen-ready harvests.
- Intensely Bright Golden Fruits: Bears eye-catching, perfectly straight, smooth-skinned fruits in a vibrant, glossy lemon-yellow shade that contrasts beautifully against deep green foliage and is incredibly easy to spot when harvesting.
- Advanced Powdery Mildew Tolerance: Features built-in genetic tolerance against Powdery Mildew, a common fungal disease that can shorten standard courgette crops in late summer. This keeps the canopy healthy and productive deep into autumn.
- Compact yet Vigorous Bush Habit: Naturally forms a tidy, non-trailing, open bush framework. This space-saving architecture protects your hands during harvesting and makes it just as successful in large patio containers as it is in open garden beds or raised vegetable allotments.
- Premium Culinary Quality: Prized for its crisp, firm, non-watery white flesh and a deliciously sweet, clean flavor. It holds its appetizing color and crisp texture remarkably well during roasting, grilling, or stir-frying.
- Gourmet Edible Blossoms: Famous for producing large, robust, vibrant yellow male flowers that remain attached to the young fruit for an extended period—ideal for picking early to make traditional stuffed and battered blossoms.
Care Instructions:
- Sowing Position: Start seeds indoors from April to May by sowing individual seeds on their edges 2cm deep in pots of moist compost. Alternatively, sow directly outdoors in late May or June into rich, warm soil once all danger of frost has fully passed. Position in full sun.
- Moisture & Nutrition: Courgettes are incredibly hungry and thirsty plants. Plant them out into a sunny spot enriched with plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost, and water them deeply and regularly at the base of the plant, especially during dry summer spells.
- Harvesting Tip: Use a sharp knife to harvest the courgettes when they reach about 10–15cm (4–6in) long, ideally with the magnificent flower still attached. Regular and frequent picking is vital to stimulate the plant into pushing out a non-stop supply of new fruits.
