A revolutionary, British-bred climbing variety producing striking golden-yellow fruits in limited spaces.

Maximize your vertical growing space with this award-winning, high-performance climbing courgette. Specially bred in the UK to adapt beautifully to our maritime climate, Shooting Star F1 breaks away from traditional bush habits by actively climbing up supports. Producing a heavy, continuous crop of bright golden fruits with an exceptionally firm flesh, it is the ultimate choice for small gardens, narrow borders, or patio trellises.

Details:

  • Botanical Name: Cucurbita pepo, a highly advanced, premium hybrid selection within the Courgette genus.
  • Plant Class: Half Hardy Annual, establishing with exceptional vigor to quickly scale vertical supports and deliver heavy summer harvests.
  • Space-Saving Climbing Habit: Naturally develops a unique, vertical climbing framework. This allows it to be trained effortlessly up trellis panels, obelisks, wires, or a sturdy netting frame, making it a perfect space-saving solution for smaller gardens and restricted growing areas.
  • Eye-Catching Golden Fruits: Bears uniform, smooth-skinned fruits in a vibrant, glossy golden-yellow shade that contrasts beautifully against deep green foliage and is incredibly easy to spot when harvesting.
  • Premium Culinary Quality: Prized for its crisp, firm, non-watery white flesh and a deliciously sweet, clean flavor. It holds its texture remarkably well during roasting, grilling, or stir-frying.
  • Nutritional Powerhouse: Homegrown courgettes are an excellent, fresh natural source of essential vitamins, particularly Vitamin C, which supports a healthy immune system.
  • Edible Blossoms: Produces large, robust, bright golden-orange flowers that can be snipped early in the morning, stuffed with goat's cheese, and lightly fried as a gourmet summer delicacy.

Care Instructions:

  • Sowing Position: Start seeds indoors from April to May by sowing individual seeds on their edges 2cm deep in pots of moist compost. Alternatively, sow directly outdoors in late May or June into rich, warm soil once all danger of frost has fully passed. Position in full sun.
  • Training & Support: Plant out near a sturdy support system such as a trellis, cane wigwam, or wire frame. As the vine grows, loosely tie the main stem to the support using soft garden twine at regular intervals to guide it upward.
  • Moisture & Nutrition: Climbing courgettes require plenty of fuel. Plant into soil heavily enriched with organic matter, and water deeply and regularly around the base. Feed weekly with a high-potash tomato fertilizer once the first small fruits begin to form.
  • Harvesting Tip: Use a sharp knife to harvest the fruits when they reach roughly 10–15cm (4–6in) long. Regular picking is vital to prevent the plant from slowing down, ensuring a continuous supply of fresh yellow courgettes until autumn.
