A high-performance hybrid featuring an open, near spineless habit and advanced powdery mildew resistance.
Streamline your home harvests with this exceptional modern F1 hybrid courgette. Engineered specifically for easy picking and reliable performance, Firenze F1 boasts a distinctively open, upright architecture with very few spines to protect your hands. Combined with built-in resistance to powdery mildew, it produces a relentless, heavy crop of tender green fruits all summer long.
Details:
- Botanical Name: Cucurbita pepo, a highly refined, premium hybrid selection within the Courgette genus.
- Plant Class: Half Hardy Annual, establishing with superior speed and stamina to deliver early and consistent kitchen-ready harvests.
- Advanced Powdery Mildew Resistance: Possesses strong genetic defense against Powdery Mildew, a common fungal disease that can often cut a courgette crop short in the late summer months. This keeps the foliage healthy, green, and productive deep into autumn.
- Near Spineless Open Habit: Naturally forms a tidy, non-trailing bush framework with an open canopy and remarkably few sharp spines. This ensures quick, painless, scratch-free harvesting.
- High-Yielding Uniform Crops: Yields an outstanding abundance of beautifully straight, smooth-skinned, medium-green fruits boasting an exceptionally crisp white flesh and a fine, delicate flavor.
- Versatile Space-Saver: Offers outstanding flexibility across the plot; its compact, controlled bush habit means it thrives just as successfully in large patio containers as it does in open garden beds or raised vegetable allotments.
- Kitchen Adaptability: Highly versatile in the kitchen, holding its firm texture beautifully whether sliced into fresh stir-fries, roasted with Mediterranean herbs, grilled on the barbecue, or grated into baking recipes.
Care Instructions:
- Sowing Position: Start seeds indoors from April to May by sowing individual seeds on their edges 2cm deep in pots of moist compost. Alternatively, sow directly outdoors in late May or June into rich, warm soil once all danger of frost has fully passed. Position in full sun.
- Moisture & Nutrition: Courgettes are incredibly hungry and thirsty plants. Plant them out into a sunny spot enriched with plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost, and water them deeply and regularly at the base of the plant, especially during dry spells.
- Harvesting Tip: Use a sharp knife to harvest the courgettes when they reach about 10–15cm (4–6in) long. Regular and frequent picking is absolutely vital, as it stimulates the plant into pushing out a non-stop supply of fresh flowers and fruits.
