A vibrant tapestry of large, elegant daisy-like blooms on compact, wind-resilient plants.

Introduce effortless elegance and fluid motion to your garden with this highly adaptable, lower-growing cosmos mix. Originally native to Mexico, these plants feature large, open blossoms that float gracefully above light, ethereal foliage, making them a magnificent choice for filling border gaps, anchoring island beds, or creating striking, informal summer drifts.

Details:

  • Botanical Name: Cosmos bipinnatus (Compositae), a premium and highly reliable selection within the Cosmos genus.
  • Plant Class: Half Hardy Annual, establishing with incredible speed from a spring sowing to burst into a heavy, continuous flush of blooms within the exact same season.
  • The Sensation Palette: Delivers a classic, high-impact mixture of wide, single daisy-like flowers in a beautiful blend of deep red, rose-pink, and crisp white, all finished with glowing golden central eyes.
  • Dwarf & Wind Resilient: Naturally displays a sturdy, bushy, and medium upright habit that reaches a manageable height of 60cm (24in). Being more compact than traditional varieties, it is exceptionally well-suited for exposed, windy positions and requires no staking.
  • Ethereal Ferny Foliage: Clothed in soft, finely cut, feathery bright green leaves that create a light, airy texture that rustles beautifully in a summer breeze.
  • Versatile Garden Layouts: The perfect height for the front-to-mid section of mixed borders, and compact enough to act as a spectacular, free-flowering centerpiece in large, sun-drenched patio containers.
  • Pollinator Friendly: The wide-open, highly accessible single blooms act as an ideal landing pad, keeping your garden buzzing with life by attracting butterflies and bees.
  • Thrives on Neglect: Performs at its absolute best in free-draining soils and warm, sunny positions. It thrives effortlessly in poorer soils where other annuals might struggle.

Care Instructions:

  • Sowing Position: Start seeds early indoors from March to April in cellular trays of moist, free-draining compost, or sow directly outdoors in May where they are to flower once the risk of spring frost has safely passed. Position in full sun.
  • Soil Note: Plant out into ordinary, well-drained soil. Avoid overly rich or heavily fertilized ground, as high fertility will promote excessive leaf production at the expense of the blossoms.
  • Maintenance: Space or thin out young plants to roughly 30–40cm apart to allow their bushy framework to mature properly. Deadhead spent flower heads continuously throughout the summer to relentlessly stimulate the production of fresh buds right up until autumn.
