A dramatic, long-flowering masterpiece featuring fully ruffled, velvety crimson-maroon double blooms.

Introduce deep, rich tonal luxury to your summer borders with this spectacular single-colour cosmos selection. Flaunting large, multi-layered crinkled blossoms in an intense shade of rich cranberry, these tall, highly vigorous plants create an unforgettable contrast against their own delicate, lacy green foliage.

Details:

  • Botanical Name: Cosmos bipinnatus 'Double Click Cranberries', an elite, single-colour variant within the award-winning Double Click series.
  • Plant Class: Half Hardy Annual, growing with exceptional speed and vigor from a spring sowing to yield a relentless, non-stop flush of flowers in its very first season.
  • Velvety Double Blooms: Features large, striking double and semi-double flower heads with heavily layered, tufted petals that mimic a rich pom-pom or carnation.
  • Saturated Crimson Palette: Showcases a deeply intense, sophisticated shade of rich cranberry crimson-maroon, bringing a sophisticated, moody elegance to traditional cottage garden schemes.
  • Stately & Vigorous Growth: Displays a tall, upright, and robustly branched growth habit, reaching a mature height of 90–120cm (3–4ft) and a spread of 45cm (18in).
  • Premium Cut Flower Variety: An absolute triumph for home floral design; the extra-long, straight stems and dense, volumetric cranberry flower heads hold their form and deep colour beautifully in fresh summer vase arrangements.
  • Wildlife Magnet: Despite their dense layers of petals, the wide blooms are easily navigated by local pollinators, acting as a highly effective natural fuel station for butterflies, honeybees, and bumblebees.
  • Optimal Position: Thrives beautifully when positioned in a bright, open spot in full sun, showing outstanding natural resilience in poorer, well-drained soils.

Care Instructions:

  • Sowing Position: Start seeds early indoors from March to April in cellular trays of moist, free-draining compost, or sow directly outdoors in May where they are to flower once all danger of spring frost has safely passed. Position in full sun.
  • Planting Out & Spacing: For indoor-started seedlings, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions before transplanting. Space the young plants roughly 45cm apart to allow their multi-branched framework plenty of room to expand smoothly.
  • Support & Maintenance: Due to their impressive height and heavy, double-petalled flower heads, plants grown in exposed or windy gardens will benefit from subtle support using canes or link stakes. Deadhead faded blooms regularly to continuously trigger the production of fresh cranberry buds.
