A fiery, sun-drenched mix of double and semi-double blooms on dwarf, compact plants.
Ignite your patio containers and border edgings with a brilliant splash of warm summer colour. Diverging from traditional pink and white varieties, this exceptional sulfur cosmos mix delivers a vibrant tapestry of layered, semi-double and fully double blossoms against delicate, finely divided green foliage—all packed into an ultra-compact, low-growing frame.
Details:
- Botanical Name: Cosmos sulphureus, a distinct and naturally compact species commonly known as Sulfur or Yellow Cosmos.
- Plant Class: Half Hardy Annual, establishing with incredible speed from a spring sowing to burst into full, heavy bloom within the exact same season.
- Fiery Brightness Palette: Bears a cheerful, high-impact mixture of multi-petalled double and semi-double flowers in glowing shades of golden-yellow, warm tangerine-orange, and intense scarlet-red.
- Ultra-Dwarf Habit: Displays a perfectly neat, mounded, and dense dwarf habit, reaching a symmetrical mature height of 30cm (1ft) and an equal spread of 30cm (12in). This eliminates any need for staking and makes it ideal for small gardens.
- The Perfect Container Choice: Because of its tight, controlled growth, it is a premier candidate for window boxes, mixed summer hanging baskets, or packed tightly along the front margins of sunny garden pathways.
- Pollinator Friendly: The bright, accessible, nectar-rich flowers serve as an exceptional natural fueling station, drawing an abundance of butterflies and honeybees into your garden space.
- Tough & Heat Tolerant: Inherently resilient; this species possesses outstanding natural resistance to heat and drought, thriving effortlessly in hot, sun-baked positions and poorer, gravelly soils.
Care Instructions:
- Sowing Position: Start seeds early indoors from March to April in trays of moist, free-draining compost, or sow directly outdoors in May where they are to flower once all danger of spring frost has safely passed. Position in full sun.
- Planting Out & Spacing: For indoor-started seedlings, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions before transplanting. Space the young plants roughly 20–30cm apart to allow their neat, mounded framework to knit together seamlessly.
- Maintenance: Avoid over-fertilising, as overly rich soils can cause the plants to produce excess foliage at the expense of flowers. Deadhead faded blooms regularly throughout the summer months to continuously stimulate fresh, fiery flower buds right up until autumn.
