An award-winning, breakthrough variety showcasing an exquisite blend of soft apricot, peach, and rose tones.
Introduce an air of contemporary elegance to your summer garden with this highly acclaimed, uniquely coloured cosmos. A true showstopper for mid-border displays, it features beautifully large, single daisy-like blossoms that harmonise soft pastel apricot with warm rose-pink undersides, creating a long-flowering spectacle that is simply breathtaking when planted in drifts.
Details:
- Botanical Name: Cosmos bipinnatus 'Apricotta', a highly celebrated and innovative breakthrough within the Cosmos genus.
- Plant Class: Half Hardy Annual, growing with exceptional speed from a spring sowing to yield a massive, heavy return of flowers in its very first season.
- Unique Award-Winning Colourway: Famed for its highly unusual and sophisticated colour palette; the petals open in a soft, delicate pastel apricot-peach and feature a contrasting warm rose-pink ring around a golden central eye.
- Growth Habit & Size: Displays a well-branched, sturdy, and compact upright habit, reaching a perfect mid-border mature height of 90cm (3ft).
- Long-Lasting Performance: Provides a non-stop, relentless display of blooms from early summer right through to the first sharp frosts of autumn.
- Premium Cut Flower: An absolute favorite for contemporary floral design; the elegant stems and unique peach tones make it a stunning, long-lasting focal point in fresh summer kitchen bouquets.
- Pollinator Friendly: The wide-open, accessible single blooms act as an inviting natural landing pad, keeping your garden buzzing with life by attracting butterflies, honeybees, and bumblebees.
- Optimal Position: Thrives at its absolute best when positioned in a bright, open spot in full sun, showing excellent natural heat and drought resilience once fully established.
Care Instructions:
- Sowing Position: Start seeds early indoors from March to April in cellular trays of moist, free-draining compost, or sow directly outdoors in May where they are to flower once the risk of spring frost has safely passed. Position in full sun.
- Planting Out & Spacing: For indoor-started seedlings, acclimatize them to outdoor temperatures gradually before transplanting. Space the plants approximately 30–40cm apart to allow their branching framework room to mature smoothly.
- Maintenance: Avoid over-fertilizing, as rich soil will encourage excessive leaf growth at the expense of flowers. Pinch out the growing tips of young plants to encourage an even bushier habit, and deadhead spent blooms regularly to stimulate a non-stop succession of fresh buds.
