A high-performance bedding daisy delivering giant, tightly double pompon blooms on sturdy dwarf stems.
Infuse your early spring garden with an abundance of cheer and uniform color using this outstanding, large-flowered english daisy mix. Specially bred for a tidy, dwarf architecture and exceptional cold-weather resilience, Bellis Goliath Mixed produces dense rosettes of neat green foliage topped with exceptionally large, multi-petalled double flowers. It is the definitive choice for introducing high-impact, long-lasting color to front-of-border displays, cottage garden path edgings, and cold-season patio containers.
Details:
- Botanical Name: Bellis perennis 'Goliath Mixed', a premium, giant-flowered color-selected cultivar within the English Daisy family.
- Plant Class: Hardy Perennial (typically grown as a biennial), establishing strong, compact root systems in its first season to deliver an unmissable, heavy explosion of blooms early the following spring.
- Giant Double Pompon Blooms: Bears an outstanding abundance of heavily layered, tightly quilled, mainly fully double flower heads. These robust blooms are significantly larger than wild daisies, holding their neat, ball-like symmetry beautifully through spring showers.
- Warm Kaleidoscope Palette: Showcases a traditional, heartwarming mix of soft blush pinks, deep glowing crimsons, and crisp, pure whites, all centered around subtle golden hearts.
- Neat Compact Growth Habit: Naturally forms a tight, robust, and cushion-like dwarf rosette framework, reaching a highly controlled mature height of just 15cm (6in). Its short, rigid stems mean the heavy flower heads never flop, making it an elite choice for low borders, carpet bedding, or mixed winter-into-spring window boxes.
- Exceptional Winter Hardiness: Shrugs off frost and damp weather with ease. It remains beautifully green through the winter months before waking up early in the year to provide much-needed color.
- Growing Position: Highly adaptable and versatile across the plot; thrives beautifully when positioned in Partial Shade or full sun, coping exceptionally well beneath the light canopy of deciduous trees or alongside garden borders.
Care Instructions:
- Sowing Position: For the best results, sow seeds outdoors from late spring to mid-summer (May to July) in a finely prepared nursery bed of moist, weed-free seed compost. Sow seeds thinly on the surface, press down gently, and cover with a very fine dusting of vermiculite or compost—light helps germination. Keep the seedbed consistently moist until seedlings emerge.
- Growing On & Transplanting: Once the young seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them out or prick them out into individual pots or rows spaced 10cm apart. Grow them on over the summer months. In autumn (September to October), transplant them into their final flowering positions in borders or patio containers, spacing the plants roughly 15cm apart to create a dense, colorful spring carpet.
- Moisture & Maintenance: Bellis plants thrive in rich, moist, well-drained soil. Keep the soil or container compost evenly damp, particularly during dry autumn spells when the root systems are establishing, and into the spring flowering rush.
- Deadheading Tip: Snip off faded flower heads regularly throughout the spring. Deadheading prevents the plant from setting seed prematurely, directing all its energy into continuously pushing out a non-stop succession of fresh, giant double blooms until early summer.
