Striking golden-fleshed roots with a unique, sweet flavour.

Brighten your dinner plate with this vibrant heritage variety, offering a delicate sweetness and traditional earthiness without the "bleeding" of red beetroot.

Details:

  • Botanical Name: Beta vulgaris, a distinctive yellow-fleshed variety prized by gourmet gardeners.
  • Unique Appearance: Features a brilliant golden-orange interior that retains its colour when cooked, providing a sophisticated look for salads and roasted dishes.
  • Exceptional Flavour: Offers a unique, mild sweetness that perfectly balances the traditional earthy undertones of the beetroot family.
  • Dual Purpose: A highly versatile crop; the roots are delicious, and the tender green leaves can be harvested as nutritious "beet greens" for steaming or stir-frying.
  • No Mess: Unlike traditional red varieties, the golden flesh does not bleed or stain hands and kitchen surfaces, making it a practical choice for home cooks.
  • Growing Habit: A reliable and hardy variety that establishes quickly, making it suitable for garden borders, allotments, or raised beds.

Care Instructions:

  • Sowing: Sow seeds thinly outdoors from March to July in well-cultivated, stone-free soil. Sow at a depth of 1cm in drills spaced 30cm apart.
  • Thinning: Once seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them to 10cm apart to allow the globe roots enough room to expand and reach full size.
  • Watering: Ensure regular and consistent watering during dry spells to maintain root tenderness and prevent the plants from bolting.
  • Soil Preference: Thrives in a sunny position in fertile, well-drained soil. Avoid freshly manured ground to ensure smooth, uniform root development.
  • Harvesting: Pull roots as required from June to October. For the best flavour and texture, harvest when the roots are between the size of a golf ball and a tennis ball.
