Whilst the de-icer turned the frozen screen to liquid quickly, the nozzle only emitted a narrow band of spray so needed quite a few passes over the windscreen to be effective.
Also the windscreen had a slightly smeary surface after the wipers had been used, even a couple of days later when using the winscreen wash. A few days afterwards the glass returned to normal.
