Barbour Icons Haydon Waxed Jacket
Inspired by and developed from the earliest example of a jacket made from waxed cotton
Uncle Harry's Coat as it is affectionately know, is the earliest example of a jacket made from waxed cotton. John Barbour has moved from Galloway in the Borders of Scotland to South Shields and set about protecting and clothing the fishermen and merchants of the port and area. Uncle Harry's coat was a Haydon Jacket first introduced in 1910. A three quarter length oilskin jacket with a velvet collar, it had two ample pockets and wind cuffs to prevent rain getting up the arms. It was a very versatile all-around waterproof jacket and is the inspiration behind this very Barbour Haydon Jacket to celebrate their 125th Anniversary.
